Neurodiversity & Austism Spectrum Disorder
Emotional and self-regulatory challenges- Like others, people with ASD thrive when they have a sense of purpose, opportunities to accomplish goals, positive relationships and a sense of belonging. People with ASD also tend to have unique perspectives. They process social and emotional information in ways that are qualitatively different from neurotypical peers. This sometimes leads to struggles with depression, anxiety, identity and self-esteem. Psychotherapy can be highly effective at helping people with ASD become more independent, establish and improve relationships, enhance self-regulation and cope with unique challenges. I feel that it is critical to understand each client’s perspective and values. I work hard to establish a strong connection based on compassion, understanding and encouragement.
Children and adults with ASD have increased rates of certain psychiatric disorders, such as OCD, ADHD, social anxiety, depression and self-regulatory disorders. There are effective interventions to address these issues in individuals with ASD. I have extensive experience adapting evidence-based treatments to help neurodiverse people with mental health difficulties.
Transitions- I provide therapy and consultation services to assist clients and families as they navigate transitions to college, into the workforce or to independent living situations. I have found that there are early actions and steps that will support successful transitions at a later time. I use a strengths-based approach to build positive habits and routines. I help adolescents accept challenges and discomfort in order to reach their most important goals. I can help families identify the types of support that will help their child thrive after high school, in college and beyond.

Depression/Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder/Anxiety/Insomnia
Many people struggle with depression, anxiety, sleep problems or adjustment issues at some point in their lives. Psychotherapy can help people clarify goals and values, change behaviors, enrich relationships and find more joy and meaning in life. I am trained in several evidence-based treatments including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), exposure therapy, CBT-i (cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia), and prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD. I will conduct a careful assessment, offer recommendations and partner with you in the treatment process.
Veterans
During my internship year, I trained at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC. I have great appreciation for the sacrifices Veterans have made for our country. I understand that military service sometimes leaves people with psychological burdens. I am trained in evidence-based treatments for military veterans struggling with depression, PTSD, insomnia, anxiety disorders and chronic health issues.
